 Meet Charmaine Boggs from CBoggsArt LLC...

I'm a mixed media artist and jewelry designer working from my home in Centerville, Ohio. I've been creating art in one form or another since I was in grade school, usually drawing in my school notebooks, mostly fashion models and my favorite musical group, the Beatles. Although I took art classes in high school and college, and have a degree in art education, much of what I do now is a combination of experimentation, art classes taken locally and online, and watching lots of Youtube videos. 

I sell my art and my jewelry in two separate Etsy shops and also teach classes in painting, printmaking, and mixed media art on the Skillshare website. I participated in the Columbus and Cincinnati Avant-Garde shows during 2019. 

Most of my artwork is inspired my nature. I take photos at home and whenever I travel to use as a resource for my landscape and floral paintings. Recently, I've been experimenting with cyanotype prints, harnessing the power of the sun to create images and color patterns for my mixed media art. My jewelry is also influenced by my love of the outdoors. I create embossed metal jewelry embellished with natural cut stones, leather cord, and faceted crystals. 

I don't spend much time sketching out images or jewelry designs before starting the work. i enjoy the process of experimentation and seeing what I can do with the materials I have on hand. If a jewelry design or a particular image works, I may repeat it, but most of my work is one of a kind. 

My work is all about the joys of the creative journey and sharing it with others. The tagline on my Etsy jewelry shop reads, "Life's a Journey... Add the Sparkle!" This pretty much sums it up for me! i have no idea what the next five years will bring, but as long as I'm still on that creative journey, i know I'll be just fine.

Meet Daniel Morris from Daniel Morris Gallery...

I am an artist based out of Columbus Ohio. I have been airbrushing for over twenty years and practicing my artistic craft for much longer. I participated in an Avant-Garde show a few years ago, but at the time I was airbrushing t-shirts.

There is a certain freedom in controlling a medium and manipulating it to project your vision. This is what inspires me to create. I use to sit down in front of the TV as a child, watching Transformers. My first “studio” was a thick book and a ball of clay. From Optimus Prime to Bumblebee, I would build the characters, play with them for a while, and then roll them back into the ball from which they came. I consider that the beginning.

Now, I look at my references and mentally project them onto the canvas. That is my creative process. 

I honestly can’t guess where my business will be in five years. Five years ago I wouldn’t have known I’d be back in Columbus, setting up at art shows. 

My work is about race and geography. We are not all the same.  We should celebrate our differences.

Meet KatieAnn Bonavita of Chic Engineer Boutique...

KatieAnn just graduated from OSU in December with a dual degree in mechanical engineering and music. She has a love for both science and the arts and was looking for ways to combine these two passions upon graduation and decided to purchase her first 3D printer. She had experience with 3D printing from her 2.5 years of undergraduate research in flexible electronics, but had used it exclusively for lab research. In December she started printing more fun and creative pieces on her own printer and decided to make a business out of it.

Just 6 months into her business (mostly supported by an Etsy page) this is her first craft fair. She is so excited to not only share her passion for her creative works, but also show younger people the many areas that STEM can be applied to and how engineering requires a lot of creativity. Her software and 3D printer will be set up at her booth for kids to see it in action and even create a custom 3D ornament of their own while attending the fair. More than anything, she loves using this business as a way to encourage females in engineering and exercise both her engineering and arts brain.

While she is currently working 3 part time jobs (3D printing business, dog trainer, and professional singer/actress), she would love to do more outreach with her 3D printing and eventually go full time.

Meet Party of Six Studio...

Party of 6 Studio is a small business in Pickerington specializing in handmade home decor and gifts. My husband and I have four daughters. Early on, our family found crafting to be an integral part of our lives and sanity. Our daughters make many of the items in our store - with guidance and quality control. We put a lot of love and careful attention in each item we make.

We began crafting in 2017 when our oldest needed to save money for a school camping trip. We love teaching our daughters the joy of struggling through to the end, of seeing what they can accomplish, and that moment of pride that shines through their eyes when they look at their finished product. It started as a way to create items for ourselves, things we saw and wanted, but couldn't afford at the time. It has grown into exploring that light within ourselves that is fueled by the process.

My husband and I discovered our talents at different points - I've always been creating in some way, but my husband discovered his talents when life forced him to learn to work with his hands. Our daughters have been creating so long, they likely don't remember not doing it. Our creative process varies per person. For our daughters, they see things in the world, the stores, online, that they want to try their hand at. For me, it's a combination of Muse and relaxation fueling my crafts. My husband is fueled more by man grunts and sawdust.

We would like to expand our business into more vendor based stores. Crafting is a family event that inspires creativity, joy, and pride.

Meet Mary Mozes from Winnie's Treasures...
I am a business owner, and I created Winnie’s Treasures LLC because I have been a crafter my entire life and I wanted the opportunity to share my passion with others. I am a wife and a fur mama. My interests include running, cycling, yoga, and reading. I enjoy being busy! I have been crafting in one form or another for as long as I can remember. I decided to open Winnie’s Treasures LLC just this year.

This is my first show Avant-Garde show, and I am so excited! As I said, I have crafted for as long as I can remember. I made my first beaded crafts as a small child. I first learned how to sew as a stress reliever during school and when I started my career. I taught myself how to knit in high school because I was bored. I always crafted because I enjoyed it. I did not think it was anything 

special until my family started requesting for me to make them various things.

Ideas come to me at weird times. I can’t force it. I will be doing something totally different and then I’ll an overwhelming urge to create something.  I hope to continue to grow my business and become a more frequent presence at craft shows. I also hope to build my business through Etsy so that I can reach a wider audience. 

Meet Rachel Wayne from Mandarin Moon...

Hello everyone! My name is Rachel Wayne, and I am the artist behind Mandarin Moon Jewelry. I am originally from Kentucky, but have lived in Ohio for over 12 years now, and am currently residing in Dublin. This is my first Avant-Garde show, and my very first art show ever, I am incredibly excited!

I have always been making things here and there my entire life, but finally found my passion for creating with metal and gemstones about a year ago and have been going full force ever since! I have a very deep love for the amazing gems that come out of our Earth, especially turquoise, which you will see a lot in my work. Those gemstones, in combination with my fascination of bending metal to my will with fire (although it fights back sometimes), inspire me to create different pieces of jewelry for others to adorn and express themselves with.

Each piece of jewelry is hand crafted by me every step of the way, from sourcing each gemstone to the final polish before it is packed lovingly into a gift box. It means more than anything to me to see someone wear my jewelry and feel great!

Meet Nicole Gersper from 3 Dogs and a Cat Sewing...

I learned how to sew as a child with my mom and my sister. I stopped sewing for a long time but just started up again in the past year and found my passion in making bags and zippered pouches.  I actually have 3 dogs (Bruce Wayne, Harley Davidson, Diana Prince) all lab mixes of some sort and a cat named Lucy.  Bruce is my supervisor and is usually sitting in my sewing room keeping me company.  My hubby is a comic book geek (hence the dogs names) and has had a big influence in my life.

This year will be my first Avant-Garde show and I'm looking forward to it! I like to make things that are pretty and make people smile. finding a great deal on something I think I can make something special out of makes me smile. When I got started I wanted to do something creative outside my technical day life. I also wanted something to keep my hands busy and out of the cookie jar and mind out of the television or my cell phone. 

My sister was a big influence. She sews a lot and shares with me and I need to see accomplishment in a short period of time which i can do with bags.  I shop for fabric a lot, and I find something special that I think will look good. I look at bag patterns and what others have made and get inspiration. In five years, My intent is to keep my business my side job. I love both my day job and my night job. I am interested in working in different fabrics and possibly getting into leather goods. The message behind my work is you can have something special and pretty and makes you smile but not cost a fortune or pay for the brand. 

Meet Ameerah Akram from Nontle Creations...

My name is Ameerah I'm a 28 yr old wife and mom of 3. Originally from Cleveland, OH but grew up in Atlanta, GA currently in Columbus, Oh. I am really into natural and holistic methods of healing which led me into my self taught artistry of now 5 yrs exploring entrepreneurship through art. I have yet to participate in Avant-Garde but heard great things about it and really excited about participating. My inspiration is in tune empowerment and healing first. I love watching my customers be intuitively led to their crystal jewelry it lets me know how beautifully the seen and unseen in connected. I make astrological pieces so many times people will first choose a stone from their sign before even knowing it's their sign. That is inspiring for me.

I started really being into crystals and exploring that world and buying tons I wanted to share that healing with others with beautiful unique Creations. I discovered my talent by jumping in head first I went to one jewelry making class and the rest was history. My gift had completely revealed itself. My creative process as a Cancer thrives in comfort and being home. I love my home I love the energy of it and when it's time to get started I'm normally relaxed and in a whole other creative world. In five years I see myself continually growing having a huge space where ppl can come receive a wide variety of natural healing with a garden,  massages,  crystal therapy,  herbal healing, reiki and beyond.

Meet Larry Maniccia from Larry Maniccia Photography...

I am new to the Columbus area. I moved here at the start of 2018 after living in Cleveland for the last 22 years. By day I am a business professional. While not at work I love to spend time hiking, taking pictures, and spending time with my wife and twelve year old son. I got started with photography in 2012 after seeing videos and blogs online about the subject. My interest and passion for the craft grew quickly as I got more involved with it and it’s now something I can’t imagine life without. My love for it stems from how different the process is compared to my day

job.

This will be my first Avant-Garde show, and I am excited to display my work and meet some of the attendees. I enjoy talking about the scenes I have captured and hope that my prints evoke emotion and inspire others to explore the outdoors. I love the process of exploring and finding new subjects to photograph. It’s a process that allows me to be creative. I also enjoy that it allows me

to share places with people that otherwise they may not be able to visit themselves.

I don’t know if discover is the right word; more like refine. When I first started with photography I wasn’t very good at it. Over time I have learned a lot both from trial and error, and through other photographers who were kind enough to share their knowledge. To me it’s essentially an adventure! There are times when I plan out what I want to go out and capture, while other times I go out with no predetermined plan and just improvise based on my surroundings. Both have their merits, and each presents its own challenge.

In five years my hope is that I can continue to develop my style and vision as an artist. Over time I would like to devote more time to it with the goal of someday doing it full time. The message behind my work is that the world around us is a beautiful place! Get out, explore, and enjoy it. Doing so will recharge your mind, body, and soul.

Meet Candy Rose-Lucas from Candy Lucas . . . 
I have been a Massage Therapist for 21 years and a Reiki Master Teacher for 16 years. I taught in a massage school for over 14 years and I give private Reiki workshops and teach classes in an Energy school in Columbus.  I became interested in stones and crystals and started to take classes about the subject. I found that stones have their own energy which can help to bring harmony to the body.  I also learned about Chakra stones which are laid on the body that can help with a person’s healing process. Working with stones is what awakened my interest in jewelry making.

I never thought of myself as being a crafty person until several years ago, a friend of mine, asked me to take a few craft classes with her and I found out that I enjoyed them and started taking additional classes as well. I have always enjoyed jewelry and with my interest in energy work with the use of stones, I decided to try the two together and found out how much I enjoyed making jewelry with different stones such as agates or jaspers.  Each time I produce a piece of jewelry, I use Reiki. I clear the jewelry and infuse each piece with Reiki.

I have been making jewelry for 2 -½ years.  It’s exciting to see how creative one can be making jewelry. A few pieces of jewelry that I have created have been from what people requested.  For an example, if they want stones to help with focus or help with stress, I research which stones assist with that and make a piece of jewelry consisting of those stones.

Since I am new at making jewelry, I believe the sky is the limit.  I wanted something in retirement that is fulfilling and creative and I have found it.  I want to strive to get better and create a prosperous business. Jewelry is not only beautiful to wear but also brings positive energy and harmony to the wearer.

Meet Brittany Smith from The Little Lark Co. . . . 

I am a part-time crafter and work full-time as an environmental inspector. I am fortunate to be able to work outdoors during the week and spend my weekends creating bath products and designing jewelry. I also love to knit, read, camp and travel. This winter, my husband and I will be traveling to Iceland, and we're very much looking forward to seeing the Northern lights! 

I began making my own lip balm in 2015 and realized I had created a pretty high-quality product! I decided to start selling on Etsy in 2016. From there, I began experimenting with bath products such as soaps and sugar scrubs. Since I craft part-time, I really use it as a relaxing hobby. It's something I can do to unwind and take a break form work. I enjoy crafting products with high quality ingredients, knowing that someone will enjoy my products as much as I do. 

When I'm designing my jewelry, it involves a lot of playing around with different patterns, beads, and colors. In my free time, I'll sketch ideas of what I would like to piece to look like. With my bath products, I thin about what kind of products I would like to use myself or how to make my current products better. I'll whip up some test batches for myself, friends, and family to try and use their feedback to help myself improve. 

I'm a practical person, and I love the idea of products that are fashionable as well as being functional. I appreciate that the jewelry I am making serves a purpose and can help alleviate pain for those who wear it. 

I would like to explain what magnetic therapy is and how individuals can benefit from it. Magnetic therapy is based on the concept of using magnetic energy to increase oxygen absorption and blood flow. It is safe and natural alternative therapy that has been used throughout history to help promote healing and ease pain. For some people, the results of wearing magnetic therapy jewelry can be very fast. However, others may find it takes a little longer to notice improvements. Results can vary from person to person, so it is important to wear your jewelry as much as possible!
