2025 Summer Avant-Garde Craft Show - Meet some of our vendors!

Meet Amy Thompson from Amy's Adventure in Art...

I'm Amy Thompson, owner and artist of Amy's Adventures in Art. After 32 years as a kindergarten teacher, I started my art business in 2024—born from a lifelong love of creativity and color. These days, I focus mostly on watercolor, but I also love to mix in other media to create cards, calendars, stickers, and homey decor pieces.

Color is where it all starts for me. I find inspiration in unexpected palettes and love discovering new ways to mix shades, add texture, and create something joyful.  I want to  make art that feels good to look at, use, and decorate your space.

And just as much as I love painting, I love sharing it. Watercolor is both relaxing and satisfying—anyone can enjoy it. That’s why I teach both kids and adults how to explore watercolor with simple techniques, line drawings, and use their own personal flair.  You can check out my website for art, decor and in person classes!

Meet Joanna from Brondi Beans Co...

Bondi Beans Co. is a coffee trailer inspired by laid-back Australian beach and café culture, blending quality coffee with a breezy, coastal vibe. We’re all about creating memorable moments around incredible drinks, friendly service, and a bit of sweet nostalgia—think pavlovas reimagined for the road.

We officially launched two months ago, and while we're new on the scene, we’ve poured a lot of heart into every detail. This will be our very first event of this kind, and we’re looking forward to soaking it all in and connecting with fellow creatives and coffee lovers!

We’re inspired by the laid-back energy of Australian beaches,  Aussie café culture, and the simple joy of a great cup of coffee. Our creative process starts with a flavor memory or a nostalgic moment, which we then build into a drink that’s both beautiful and unique.  Every menu item is thoughtfully designed to surprise and delight—from our signature Pavlova Latte to the cheeky Bondi Breeze, and our popular Salty Surf Latte
We see Bondi Beans Co. growing into a lifestyle brand—multiple trailers, a line of signature drinks and products, maybe even a brick-and-mortar beachside, or locally.  But no matter how far we grow, we’ll always keep the heart of Bondi alive: laid-back, community-focused, and full of flavor.
At Bondi Beans Co., our message of no worries, just great coffee. Is found in more than just a caffeine fix—it's a connection, an escape and encourages one to slow down and enjoy the moments.  Everything we do is grounded in that mission.

Meet Adelaide from Sadder Day Studios...

Adelaide is an autistic artist that likes to experiment with different types of mediums and styles. She is self-taught and recently began focusing on tactile art when her dad started going blind. Worried that he would no longer be able to see her art, she now creates art that people with low vision can feel using different textures and materials like buttons and beads on canvas.

This is her third year selling at shows and markets. As for Avant-Garde, this is her second show, the first in Columbus.

What Inspires Adelaide to create? All kinds of things - she expresses her ADHD through a wide variety of arts. Creating is a way Adelaide stims and self-regulates her autism.

She got into art when her dad started teaching her when she was very little and then Adelaide took over teaching herself with YouTube videos. Now they learn together. When we discovered our talent was when mom saw the art piling up and thought we should try selling it because we were running out of wall space and craft area. Our hope is that Adelaide can slowly learn to run more of the business side from mom, but mainly our goal is for her to make the art she enjoys and be able to make some money to help with her living one day.

Adelaide wants everyone to enjoy her art so she uses a variety of styles, textures, and mediums. This also keeps it interesting for her so that she doesn't get bored or feel like her art is work.

Meet HK Bourne from HK Bourne Art...

I would describe myself as middle aged art n00b, techie, parent of a teen, tennis player and a sailor. I've been doing this for A little over a year, and this is my first Avant-Garde Art and Craft Show! Visual beauty mostly in the natural world Is what inspires me to create.

My mother was an artist, but I was always the “word” person, having majored in English. I knew I had artistic talent and took a few art classes over my lifetime, but I also knew a lot of folks who were artists and I was never as confident in my work as they were, so I didn’t really pursue it. After my mom died, a friend suggested I paint (which was my mother’s medium) and gave me a painting set. I never used the painting set. When I went to NM for the first time that Winter, I threw some fabric markers and some tracing paper (which was all I had) in a bag and one morning I sat and drew the landscape. (See attached first drawing.)

A few months later, on the first Mother’s Day after I lost my mom, I bought myself some watercolor markers and drew a picture of the inside of my living room. I eventually bought some better markers (Copics) and a Canon IMAGEPROGRAF archival printer and started printing high-quality copies of my work. (I improved very quickly after that first sketch.) I sell them in the original 9”x12” format and also in greeting card sizes.

I would you describe your creative process as emotional. I go through phases of not liking a piece at all and trying to “fix” it and then loving it and then sort of “breaking” it again.

My business is a hobby for me. In 5 years, I guess I would see my work being sold in various brick and mortar stores. My cards are already being sold at the Global Gallery in Clintonville, which is exciting.

Meet Stacy Piper from Middle School Chaos LLC...

"Middle School Chaos" started about 26 years ago when I began scrapbooking my oldest child's baby album. I thought the name was a perfect fit because my craft room resembles my classroom - you never know what is going to come out of it. Throughout the years I've worked with scrapbooking, cards, coasters, stickers, tumblers, t-shirts and now I have found fun in creating 3D layered shadow boxes.

Currently I am able to work on my "side hustle" during summer months and school breaks, but my hope is to continue on a regular basis after I retire from teaching. I've been a part of the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows for a while now and I have enjoyed every single one! Meeting new people and bringing a smile to their faces with my items brings me happiness, also. Hope to see you soon!

Creativity in Columbus!

Meet Alicia Ranshaw from Curious Herbarium...

My name is Alicia, and I’m the owner of Curious Herbarium. I create shadow boxes with natural elements, growing and preserving many of the plants I use. My shadow boxes are like portals to another world.

I’ve been creating shadow boxes for about a year now, and this will be my first time participating in the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show.

A love of gardening and nature, combined with a drive to create, fuels my work. I’ve always been a maker, and this form of art combines many of the things I love to do. I even grow a flower garden specifically for preserving, so the things I love can continue on.

I discovered my talent by simply messing around with different elements until I found success. My creative process is pure chaos! I don’t ever have a plan—each element builds upon the next until I feel like the project is complete.

In five years, I hope to be creating even bigger shadow boxes and other enclosures, while also making custom works of art for others.

The message behind my work is simple: stop and take a look at the nature around us. Those beautiful little details that most people don’t usually notice are what make life so special.

Meet Isaiah Winter from Grim Horizon...

Hello! I'm Isaiah "Winter" Ross, a Columbus local scavenger artist. I love being outdoors in pretty much any context: camping, backpacking, kayaking, gardening, etc. This appreciation of the outdoors influences my craft in a big way, from the materials I use to the stories my pieces tell. When I'm not crafting, you can find me out on walks, enjoying a brewery, or being a (phenomenal) home cook.

View my work at: https://isaiahross.wordpress.com/

I started out with photography in 2008 and grew as a multidisciplinary artist in the years since. I recall my first piece of furniture was as a sophomore in high school. My time as a design major in college only amplified my knowledge and technical ability.

This will be my debut, both for the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show and in general!

There's an unexplainable drive in me that truly wants to create. Even if it's something to just keep my hands busy I love every minute of it. It is mentally stimulating and a never-ending task of problem-solving. Life and experience do a lot to inform what the project will be, and my creative nature tends to exude into much of my daily life.

From a young age, I was always playing and creating with Legos, Lincoln Logs, K'nex, and Erector sets. Art has always been second nature for me. When my first furniture piece, a bookcase, sold—I realized I was onto something bigger and should pursue it.

My creative process doesn't typically start with an idea. Rather, the material itself. Whether it be cut of wood, bones, flowers, etc. When I find curiosity in a specific object the process truly begins, what with style/aesthetic/statement. I run through all sorts of possibilities over the next moments or days and then jump in, hyperfocused until the vision is realized.

Though I've had my online shop since 2020, this is the first year I'm "taking it seriously." I hope this first show, and the following year, prove worthy to make it more full-time. In five years, I hope to see my art in a gallery or shop for the public to enjoy.

While there's no one answer as to a message in my work, there are certainly recurrent themes. Overall, my art is a reflection on time, natural process, and earthen beauty. Another fairly common theme is paganism.

Meet Raven Moose from Raven Moose Designs...

I am newly married and live in Grove City with my husband and our three rescue dogs—Willow, Blue, and Baxter. I moved to Ohio from New Hampshire in 2021 when my career changed directions. I love spending time outdoors hiking and camping, hanging out with my nephews, and getting creative in the craft studio.

I’ve been papercrafting for over twenty years. This will be my first show with the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows, and I’m really excited to share my work!

My family is my biggest inspiration. Preserving memories of all the amazing adventures we’ve had means so much to me—it’s important to always have something to look back on.

I first got into papercrafting when I started scrapbooking. It all started when I found my baby book hidden away in the basement—it was moldy, and I wanted to create a new book to save those memories. My crafting grew from there.

My friends were the ones who encouraged me to take it further. They’ve always loved my work and pushed me to share it with others and start offering it at shows.

My creative process usually starts with inspiration from something I see while I’m out and about. It could be a new crafting item I find while window-shopping, the colors of autumn leaves, or a beautiful spring bloom. Sometimes it’s just a hint of my neurodivergent hyper-focus kicking in!

In five years, I’d love to have a small brick-and-mortar store where I can teach scrapbooking and card-making classes full-time. I also hope to raise money through my work to help support local animal rescues.

The message behind my work is simple: spread positivity and cheer through small gestures—like a handmade card—while also giving back to the community by supporting local animal rescues.

Meet Keith Stone from Keith Stone Books...

I was involved in a golf cart accident in 2015 that left me a quadriplegic. I had never written a book before, but I wrote my memoir about the accident and my recovery to help inspire other people who might be down.

I didn’t complete that first book, “The Optimistic Quadriplegic,” until 2021. I had never written a book prior to that.

Since then, I’ve written five novels—two mysteries, two conspiracy theory books, and a fictional story about a group of musicians who got together and became a one-hit wonder. I have a very vivid imagination, and the various ideas just seem to come to me. I already have two other novels in the planning stage.

In five years, I expect to continue writing books of all types. It is a great way to keep my mind sharp since I can no longer exercise my body.

My first book, my memoir, was written to inspire. My other books were written strictly for the readers’ entertainment.

Meet Kim Alverson from Rochfort Creative Glass...

My name is Kim Alverson, and I am a retired preschool teacher and the painter/creator behind Rochfort Creative Glass. My husband and crafting partner, Fred, and I will be working the Spring Craft Show together. We've been married for 37 years and have raised three outstanding young men who’ve married amazing, strong women and have given us four beautiful grandchildren and four granddogs.

I began creating painted wine bottles for Christmas 2022. I was encouraged to keep going, and now here I am! This will be my first time participating in the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, and I’m thrilled to share my work.

What inspires me most is creating something beautiful for home decor. Blending my walks through home decor sections of stores with the inspiration I get from paintings in art museums and galleries makes me want to bring my own artistic perspective to glass. Plus, I just love playing with paint!

I didn’t originally set out to create a craft. As a preschool teacher, I would experiment with paint projects with my students. After retiring in 2022, I started playing with paint and accessories at home using recycled glass. That December, I made Christmas gifts for my family, and from there, I’ve upped my game with better paint quality and lights. I’m always experimenting with different bottles, sizes, and colors of recycled glass.

My creative process starts when I see something visually appealing to me. I break it down into stages—figuring out how difficult or easy it would be to paint and deciding which techniques to use. I’ll often snap a picture of whatever inspired me—a piece of fabric, a pillow, wallpaper, etc.—and think about how to work that onto a glass bottle. From there, it’s all trial and error.

In five years, I’d like to continue doing a few craft shows each year, but I’d also love to have more custom orders between shows.

My bottles can be beautiful standing alone or with lights. It’s a piece of decor made from recycled glass with the hope of bringing visual beauty to the observer.

Meet Smee from Smee's Readings...

My name is Cinnamon, but you can call me Smee. I’m relatively new to the Columbus area, having moved here with my family in the fall of 2023 from my hometown of Trenton, NJ. I’m an x-ray tech by trade and the mother of two beautiful neurodivergent teenage boys. I love taking nature walks—I'm a bird enthusiast and love to listen to their songs while I walk. Music is also a big part of my life; I love to sing and hope to join a local choir someday.

Professionally, I’ve been creating essential oil rollerballs and sprays for under a year, but I’ve been making them for friends and family for several years now. This will be my first time participating in the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, and I’m really looking forward to it!

My love of helping others inspires me in everything I do. That drive to assist others is what fuels my work.

My first creations were inspired by personal need—I suffer from migraines and wanted a natural remedy that didn’t rely on adjusting my caffeine intake. After doing some research into essential oils, I made my first Migraine Relief rollerball—and it worked! From there, I created other "recipes" and gave them to friends and family to try. Now I have blends for self-love, anxiety relief, menstrual and perimenopausal symptom relief, and even just to help you relax enough to fall asleep.

I discovered my talent simply by trying. You never know what talent lies within you unless you’re willing to try new things.

My creative process is meditative and magical.

In five years, I’d love to switch things up—take x-rays part-time while creating and selling my products full-time. I’m hoping to gain some momentum this year and grow my business.

My work is all about love. Self-love, love of others, and love of community. My hope is to spread that love through my creations.

Columbus Get Excited! It's Time the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show!

Meet Janet Forbes-Green from Made to Adore...

Retiring after 35 years as a math/science teacher for Columbus City Schools I now have the time to devote to an interest I’ve always had which is creating art. Being an empty nester comes with some advantages as my 2 children are married and have their own families which gives me an at-home art studio. (Yeah!)  With the help of my husband of 44 years I can now devote time to developing my craft.

During my years of teaching, I attended conferences set in New Orleans, specifically near the French Quarter. Between classes, I would walk the Quarter mesmerized by the colorful houses and French-influenced architecture. I really wanted to reproduce that look in a colorful, whimsical way. My art reflects my interpretation of the homes of New Orleans. Made with polymer clay, acrylic paint, and resin to enhance the color, each house has its own unique style and charm.

I became a member of the Worthington Area Arts League to gain guidance and advice.  It has taken me at least 4 years to develop my style of art. Some of my work is displayed through their website and in art/craft shows around the area. I also show some of my work on Facebook. I also create personal pieces for people.

Meet Stacy Piper from Middle School Chaos LLC...

My name is Stacy Piper and I am the owner of Middle School Chaos, LLC. I am a full-time middle school teacher and have two grown children. I craft to help relieve the stress of teaching math to 7th graders! I began scrapbooking when my son was born 25 years ago. My style has changed over the years but I still enjoy every minute of creating. This will be my 4th Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show!

What inspires me is a bit of anything and everything. When I see something online or in a store that I like, you can probably be sure I'm saying "I can do that." I create mostly with paper/cardstock but I also mess around with t-shirts, tumblers, stickers, and coasters. Every year I make classroom decor for my "home away from home" - my classroom.

My creative process is chaotic at best. I often start a project and will change midstream. You never know what you are going to get in my craft room. This is why my store name is Middle School Chaos - like my classroom, my craft room is a different day of chaos every day.

In five years I hope to see myself retired from teaching and doing more arts & crafts shows. The message behind my work is happiness... I want people to look at my work and have it remind them of a story or memory that they've had in the past. I can't wait for this show!

Meet Katherine Patrick from Nuthatch Yarn Studio...
Hi! My name is Katie, and I’m the creator of Nuthatch Yarn Studio. I live with my husband, a grumpy old man cat, and an embarrassingly large stash of yarn. I’ve been crocheting since I was a kid, but I’ve been focusing on amigurumi (a big word that basically just means crochet plushies) for about five years. This will be my third Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show, and I’m so excited! I love to crochet when I have downtime, and ending up with an adorable final project is so rewarding. It’s the perfect distressing time after work for me.
My grandma taught me to crochet when I was young, but over the years I’ve also dabbled in an eclectic assortment of crafts including cross stitch, scrapbooking, and miniature painting. Crochet is the one hobby that’s really stuck. I feel so proud when I turn a ball of yarn into a cuddly companion, and sharing people’s joy when they see my creations just enhances the experience. When I crochet, I like to experiment with different patterns and colors. I typically don’t make the same thing more than a couple times, so my stock is always changing!
I also try to think about the seasonality of my items. Before Christmas, I did a lot of penguins. This spring, I had surprise Easter eggs and marshmallow peeps. At this show, I’ll be focusing on Pride-themed items for June, so expect to see lots of bright colors and flag designs! While I’d love to see my business flourish, I most of all want to have fun with my hobby and be able to share my work with others. My aspirations are to continue doing a few craft shows throughout the year. Of course, I’m always open to custom projects as well!

I’m looking forward to the show and hope to see you there!

It's Show Time!

Meet Stacy Piper of Middle School Chaos...

I've been a middle school teacher for 29 years and have been crafting for almost that long. I've worked with papercrafts, vinyl, coasters, t-shirts, stickers, tumblers, and 3D layered shadow boxes. I make most of the decor in my classroom!

This will be my 3rd Avant-Garde Show and I've enjoyed talking to the many people who have come through. I use my crafting as a way to de-stress from the craziness of middle school.

How I got started.. I originally started creating scrapbooks for my two children who are now grown and now am focused on the layered paper shadow boxes.

I love to create things that make other people smile. That's my motivation. I look forward to doing this full-time after I retire from the classroom.

Meet Jaclyn Hamilton of Jaclyn Hamilton Fine Arts ...
I’m a graduate of Kansas City Art Institute with a bachelors in painting. My painted glassware is sold internationally, and this will be my first Avant-Garde craft show. I love painting on glass- I’ve been painting glassware for 24 years.

How I got started.. I painted my first glasses as a Christmas gift for my mom. I opened an Etsy shop a few years later. In college I worked in a gift shop and an artist brought in painted glassware to sell. I was so inspired I started painting on glass myself.

What inspires me.. When I'm creating a new piece, I’m inspired by the individual glass, its shape and structure.

My five year plan.. In the next five years, I see myself selling at lots of craft fairs. The message behind my work is that I hope that my work inspires people to enjoy the little things in life.

Meet Paula White of Simply Crafted LLC...

I am a retired Education professor who has dabbled in arts and crafts for years. I’ve never had any formal training in the arts, but have experimented with a variety of art forms over the years. I consider myself a self-taught artist who has finally found the medium that brings me joy; I love to design functional and decorative art with epoxy resin. This will be my first time participating in an Avant-Garde Art & Craft show.

I began experimenting with and creating resin art in 2018, but I only recently began selling my art. Prior to working with resin, I expressed my creativity by making candles, and through drawing. I use my many photos of the ocean as inspiration for my coastal resin art pieces. I also find inspiration in being from central Ohio, thus, many of my pieces are scarlet and gray. Also, the fluidness of resin is itself inspiring. Since resin is self-leveling the motion makes for unique pieces which keeps me inspired and passionate about working with resin.
How I got into my craft.. I got into crafting because I needed a way to express my creativity and use the right side of my brain. I spent many years teaching math to middle schoolers and then teaching education students the art of teaching math. I was initially drawn to resin “beach art” due to my love of the ocean. I discovered my talent rather accidentally. In general, I have a good sense of color and when working with resin, I get to mix my own colors. Plus, the fluidness of resin is a good mix for my current skills as an artist.
My creative process is one of visualization and then experimentation. I first visualize a piece and then I set about creating my vision. It is thrilling when my vision and experimentation align. I want my resin art to bring joy to people and their homes. I want my resin art to tell the story of who the customer is through the colors and designs they choose.

My goal in the next five years is that I hope to be selling my resin art in small shops that carry handcrafted items!
