Debra started Mad River Joys on June 23, 2016. She has participated in a couple of Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows along with many others. Her website launched near the end of 2016. Get ready for Spring with Mad River Joys!
Debra grew up along the Mad River in rural Urbana, Ohio, and
graduated from Miami University with an architectural design degree. She has
always loved nature and design, so she is now combining those loves to bring to
many others the joys they give her.
Debra's many items of home décor, jewelry, and photography are
handmade by her design. The designs reflect her desire to bring joy to
everyone, everyday.
Items include pocket memory keys, fairy gardens, shower curtain
dangles, bookmarks, ornaments, ornament hangers, beaded tea lights, wine glass
charms, bottle stoppers, beaded napkin rings, purse dangles, sun catchers,
decorated glassware, door hangings, fan/light pulls, necklaces, bracelets,
earrings, photo coasters, photo mouse mats, and framed photos. The list of
products is always growing.
The photos are all taken by Debra, or her husband, Frederick
"B'ar" Tolley.
Mad River Joys' products may be purchased anytime online at
MadRiverJoys.com or on Facebook at Mad River Joys. The Avant-Garde Art &
Craft Show is one of several "in person buying opportunities" Mad
River Joys offers as listed on its website show calendar or Facebook page
events.
Custom orders are welcomed. Some items work wonderfully for
wedding décor.
Debra's inspiration often comes from a walk in her expansive yard.
She would love to have a staff producing her designs in the next
five years.
Thank
you for visiting, and please look to Mad River Joys to be sure to have little
joys in your daily life!
Meet Amy Eagleeye from Eagle Mack Custom Paintings and Designs...
We have been together for about three and a half years. We love painting, creating, cooking, bird watching, and finding fun new things to do. On any given weekend, we like checking out wineries, museums, and new ice cream spots.
We started painting river rocks about a year ago. Maurice has always been an artist, but I just started painting within the past couple of years.
This is our first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show!
We get inspiration everywhere, from movie and TV characters to birds and nature to inspirational quotes. We inspire each other.
We initially just started painting rocks for fun, but more and more people took an interest in our work, so we started selling them.Maurice showed artistic talent from a very young age and has always enjoyed drawing and painting. I never knew I had any artistic ability until I painted something for Maurice for his birthday a few years ago. It turned out pretty good and that got me hooked.
We get ideas everywhere, and sometimes from each other. We look to each other for inspiration and collaboration all the time, and we are always looking to improve our craft. I think the sky's the limit. We have been approached about doing bigger projects, such as wedding invitations, portraits, and personalized gifts. We welcome the opportunities and continue to grow together as a couple and as artists.
My message to others would be, let nature be your canvas! You can incorporate the natural ridges and imperfections into your painting and come up with something cool.
Meet Logan Dold from Alchemy For You...
My name is Logan Dold, I have worked hard my whole life, from grounds keeping to home repair to welding. I've done a bit of damage to my body and skin so in an attempt to repair and preserve my skin I've created a rather wonderful all natural line of skin care products. I started giving my close friends and family some of my products when I realized I could be selling it to many more people improving their lives and mine. This will be my second year but I believe this is the year that I shine.
I believe that skin care is a very important part of everyone's life, it will effect each and every one of us up until the day we die. Our skin is after all our largest, and often most abused organ we have. I plan on opening a relaxing and healing spa retreat with the funds I make by selling my superb products.
I hope to bring happiness and health to as many people as I possible can in my lifetime. We're only here for so long and I've been given an idea that can change the lives of millions. By taking care of our bodies we will live longer and fuller lives its time people start caring about what goes on our bodies as well as what goes in them.
Meet Olivia Salisbury from Exceptionally Ordinary...
We're a crafting family that enjoys spending time together at craft shows and festivals all over Ohio because we all live in different cities. I live in Frankfort with my husband and three fur-babies. My parents live in Beavercreek. One sister lives out-of-state and the other attends OSU, my alma mater too. We grew up in Dayton and I attended UD. That should explain our Columbus, Dayton, and Ohio designs.
The first time we set up a booth to sell our creations was the May 2017 Springfield Extravaganza. Since then, we've also sold at the Dawg Daze Festival and Tipp City Mum Festival. We're excited to attend our very first Avant-Garde show in March!
When asked what inspires me, I say its the charm and character of old, salvaged items- rough wood, rusty tools, faded books. We love giving new life to things that most people see as "junk." These unique finds make every one of our pieces unique.
We've always enjoyed the occasional craft, but the tremendous amount of DIY at my wedding really prompted the whole family to get excited about crafting in larger quantities. My dad made 25+ boxes for centerpieces out of pallets that my husband salvaged. We spent a ladies' day decorating wine bottles with lace & burlap to hold baby's breath and DIY table numbers.
I suppose discovered my talent when people complimented my wedding centerpieces or when we posted the pictures of the first birdhouses and people loved them. A lot of projects start with "that thing is cool, what can we make with that?" or they come from brainstorming and some trial-and-error. Working with imperfect materials is a fun challenge.
Exceptionally Ordinary will likely continue to be more of a hobby than a business, but we plan to still be bringing our products to festivals and crafting together. Our message is that we recycle salvaged, sometimes unwanted materials and "junk" into charming and whimsical creations that are all completely one-of-a-kind.
Meet Ellen Bakle from Bakle the Baker...
I am 28 years old and spent most of those 28 years growing up in Hilliard. I just recently moved to Plain City with my husband, and 22 month old daughter- Violet. We love to travel, play outside, ride bikes and of course I love to bake. I grew up baking with my mom and loved every second of it (except maybe the dishes). I started decorating cakes and cupcakes right after graduating college in 2011. But more recently, I found a love for decorating cookies. I love how each set can be so different and so meaningful for each customer.
I've been doing this for about two years, and this will be my very first Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show. My daughter inspires me, I want her to grow up knowing that a career doesn't have to be a 9-5 traditional job. You can turn you passion into a career. As a child I used to bake with my mom and thats were my love for baking developed. It took a lot of practice, but that's how I discovered my talent.
I take inspiration from many different places including: coloring books, clip art, pictures clients send, kids clothing, comics, ect. In five years I would love to have my own store font bakery! I want to create cookies that will be the cherry on top of a great event. I want the cookies to bring smiles to faces and be meaningful and most importantly- delicious!
I am also open for custom orders, just email me at baklethebaker@gmail.com.
